The Catalan family business Priorat Natur is rooted in a deep respect for tradition, seasonal rhythms, and exceptional quality. Arbequina is a cultivar of olives. The fruit is highly aromatic, small, symmetrical and dark brown, with a rounded apex and a broad peduncular cavity. In Europe, it is mostly grown in Catalonia, Spain, but it is also grown in Aragon and Andalusia, as well as California, Argentina, Chile, and Australia. It has recently become one of the dominant olive cultivars in the world, largely under highly intensive, “super high-density” plantation.
The Neus Especial oil is named in honor of the founder’s grandmother, Neus de Mas Callot. Her first name, Neus, meaning “snow” in Catalan, perfectly reflects the oil’s exceptional purity. Pressed from unripe green Arbequina olives early in the harvest season, this oil is a rare and fleeting product: available only during the last three months of the year, and only in limited quantities.
Unfiltered, but Exceptionally Pure
While the oil remains unfiltered to preserve its complexity and depth, impurities are removed through careful decanting, resulting in a crystal-clear liquid with a silky texture. The oil’s extremely low acidity (0.1%) is a sign of its freshness and precision, a level typically only seen in the highest-grade extra virgin oils.
